Prime Minister Takaichi announced that Finance Minister Katayama would become the next chair of the World Bank–IMF Development Committee. This will be the first time since the committee was established in 1974 that a Japanese representative has served as chair.
Prime Minister Takaichi formally announced on X and in a related release that Finance Minister Katayama would become the next chair of the World Bank–IMF Development Committee. The Development Committee is an institution that advises the IMF on development policy, and Katayama's appointment would make her the first Japanese chair in the committee's more than half-century history.
In response to the announcement, Katayama posted on X: “I am truly grateful to Prime Minister Takaichi for making the announcement, and I feel a renewed sense of responsibility.” Prime Minister Takaichi also said the same day that she hoped Katayama's appointment would contribute to the international activities of Japanese companies and the sustainable development of Japan's economy.
