Garmin announced the new Approach S72 golf GPS watch. Preorders for the 47 mm model will be accepted from 15 October, with sales beginning on 22 October at ¥128,000, including tax. The 43 mm model is scheduled to launch in early November.
The watch offers major upgrades to swing analysis, in-round body-data recording and putting analysis, and is designed for use in everyday health management as well. It is the first model to feature a fifth-generation optical heart-rate monitor, enabling users to review the relationship between heart-rate trends during a round and their performance afterward.
Swing analysis can measure hand speed, top position, transition angle and wrist rotation, with the data available in the Garmin Golf app. Green-reading using Green Contour data and analysis by slope pattern have been added to the green-navigation features, which require a paid Garmin Golf app subscription.
The watch uses a titanium bezel and sapphire lens, together with a ComfortFit fabric band, in a design intended for everyday use. It also features voice controls, an LED light and a lost-ball search timer, while established features such as AutoShot and Virtual Caddie remain available.
