Buying led the Tokyo market from the open today, with the Nikkei 225 trading ¥853 higher. Gains widened after the open on the back of a rise in the SOX Index and a decline in long-term interest rates.
The Nikkei 225 was up ¥853 as of 9:05 a.m., with buying leading the Tokyo market. The rise in the SOX Index, which comprises semiconductor-related stocks, and the decline in long-term interest rates at the end of last week supported sentiment in the stock market.
The ¥64,000 range is viewed as a downside support zone, and some market participants believe there is limited room for further declines from here. However, the decline in US equities at the end of last week weighed on the market.
In overseas markets, crude oil futures prices and US long-term interest rates remain elevated, leaving investor sentiment cautious. Uncertainty over the outlook for the situation in Iran also remains unresolved, but buying prevailed at the open.
After the open, the Nikkei 225 continued to trade with gains widening.
