A survey using search data from the age of AI found growing interest in Japan across 39 countries and regions worldwide. Japan national-team-related topics spread, centred on sports-related searches, while specific searches concerning travel preparation also increased.
AUN CONSULTING,Inc. published the results of a survey compiling rapidly rising search keywords related to travel to Japan across 39 countries and regions, using Google Trends data. The survey covered the period from 9 February to 10 August 2026 and was conducted as part of the company’s marketing business.
The survey found that searches related to the Japan national team ranked in many countries and regions against the backdrop of an international football tournament. In particular, searches concerning Japan’s opponents, match results and predictions of wins and losses ranked highly in 37 regions other than Iran. In Iran, by contrast, no Japan-related searches were identified, while other topics, such as Japan’s population and routes from Japan to Turkey, stood out.
Tourism- and travel-related searches ranked in 26 countries and regions, with searches reflecting plans for actual trips, including travel timing, transportation and immigration procedures. Specific examples included holiday, air travel and immigration-related searches in Taiwan, eSIM searches in Spain, and SmartEX searches in Poland, as well as searches for tourist destinations such as Kamikochi in New Zealand and Kamakura in Austria.
The results suggest that, while interest in Japan is increasing as a result of sports, it is also spreading across multiple themes, including tourism, travel, products and culture. It is considered important to continue monitoring search trends by country and region.
