Sharp Corporation and NICT are establishing 5G NTN test infrastructure at the Kashima site, aiming for commercialization by the end of 2026. Domestic validation and mobility testing are scheduled to begin.
Sharp Corporation and the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) are developing 5G NTN test infrastructure at the Kashima site to connect satellite and terrestrial communications. Validation toward commercialization and mobility testing are expected to take place by the end of 2026.
A Ka-band gateway antenna will be installed to validate high-throughput communications. This is expected to advance performance evaluation of NTN.
The tests will include mobility testing involving vehicles and drones, as well as validation of handover technology with terrestrial networks.
The initiative involves Sharp Corporation and NICT building a domestic validation platform, with the stated aim of reducing reliance on overseas facilities and accelerating research and development.
