Shimoda Floating Aquarium will hold a public weigh-in for a king penguin in connection with Weights and Measures Day. The event will take place at 15:25 on 1 November 2026 at Penguin Pool.
Shimoda Floating Aquarium, operated by Fujita Kanko, will hold a public weigh-in for a king penguin at 15:25 on 1 November, designated as Weights and Measures Day, during the Petapeta March penguin show. The event is intended to raise awareness of the current Measurement Act enacted by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry in 1993, and it was explained that weighing the penguins is carried out routinely as part of their health management.
At the public event, the penguin's weight will be announced on the spot, including whether it is as heavy as it looks, and the role of weighing in penguin health management will also be introduced. Visitors have been advised that the show may be cancelled in severe weather.
