Japan Airlines (JAL) announced that it will order up to 26 E190-E2 regional jets from Brazil's Embraer. It will introduce the new aircraft from fiscal 2029, downsize the fleet serving its domestic operations, and aim to improve profitability and tighten supply and demand.
The E190-E2 is a regional jet with around 100 seats. JAL has so far owned a total of 32 E170 and E190 aircraft, operated by its subsidiary J-Air, which is based at Itami Airport. JAL plans to replace the retiring aircraft in stages and switch to the E190-E2.
ANA Holdings has also announced plans to introduce up to 28 E190-E2 aircraft. The catalog price for 8 aircraft was reportedly around ¥105 billion. It aims to maintain regional routes while tightening supply and demand on domestic routes.
