Selling broadly prevailed in the ADR Japanese stock rankings, with Advantest, Recruit Holdings and Komatsu among the decliners. The Chicago Nikkei 225 futures settlement was ¥62,640, down ¥40 from Osaka's daytime session. The subsequent New York market was generally on a downward trend.
The Dow fell sharply in the New York market, while the Nasdaq also closed lower. The view was expressed that continued tensions in the Middle East and concerns about supply shortages pushed up crude oil prices, while rising long-term interest rates prompted selling pressure.
In the foreign exchange market, dollar-yen reached the low ¥156 range before moving into the ¥157 range toward the latter half of the session. This was also said to have been affected by the preliminary US October manufacturing PMI and the final University of Michigan consumer sentiment index coming in above market expectations.
Among ADR stock movements, Fanuc and ENEOS were among the top gainers, while Japan Post Holdings and Nidec were among the top decliners. Price movements were also reported for other ADR stocks individually.
