To eliminate the complexity of local-government ID management, the article introduced an initiative using IIJ's ID Governance Management Service to centrally manage government-office IDs and automate the proper assignment and deletion of access privileges.
At local governments, updates to employee IDs associated with year-end personnel transfers, retirements and new hires are concentrated at the end of the fiscal year. Differences in access privileges between systems and missed updates have been identified as security risks. Hino Ryo (日野 凌) cited not only the workload involved but also the lack of a comprehensive view of who has which access privileges as an issue, and said that optimizing ID management is important for local governments.
The IIJ ID Governance Management Service was therefore introduced as a means of centrally managing IDs and automating registration, changes and deletion in line with new hires, personnel transfers and retirements. The service can also assign access privileges by department and position, and includes functions for scheduling registrations, changes and deletions and managing historical ID information chronologically. This is expected to help reduce human error.
The service is registered on the Digital Agency's Digital Marketplace, a point highlighted as enabling rapid responses to local-government procurement needs. At the same time, implementation of the service alone will not resolve every issue. The article emphasized the importance of taking stock of the current situation, designing the desired future state and introducing the service in stages, taking budget, staffing and time constraints into account. IIJ explained that it has a support structure to help local governments identify and resolve their issues.
