UK activist fund Palliser Capital is considering companies in Taiwan and Japan expected to benefit from AI as investment candidates. In addition to announcing this year that it had acquired shares in Ajinomoto and TOTO, the fund is focusing on more active engagement with Japanese companies and disconnects in market valuations.
UK hedge fund Palliser Capital has identified companies in Taiwan and Japan expected to benefit from AI as new investment candidates, and indicated in an interview on the 9th that it is considering 2 to 3 companies. Smith (スミス), its founder and CIO, described Taiwan as “one of the most attractive regions.”
Against the backdrop of advances in AI infrastructure, Palliser is increasing its focus on activist investments in companies in the region that are not fully valued by the market. It has so far disclosed share acquisitions in Ajinomoto and TOTO. It urged Ajinomoto to raise prices for insulating materials used in semiconductors and called on TOTO to strengthen the valuation of its semiconductor components business.
Smith (スミス) pointed out that, in the Japanese market, some companies with outstanding products and market positions are not properly recognized by the market because of complex corporate structures and information gaps. Dialogue with overseas investors has become more active than before, and there are even cases in which CEOs seek meetings with investors.
