The Nikkei rose for a fifth straight session on the Tokyo stock market on the 25th. AI- and semiconductor-related stocks lifted the market, while buying targeting gains from bank stocks and the rights to interim dividends at the end of September also spread across the market.
The Nikkei Stock Average closed at ¥66,364.20 on the Tokyo Stock Exchange on the 25th, up ¥850.21 from the previous day, with the gain at one point approaching ¥900. Against the backdrop of ongoing interest-rate conditions in Japan and the United States, AI- and semiconductor-related stocks led the market.
The Nikkei initially traded ¥125 higher in the morning before extending its gains. Tokyo Electron, Advantest and Ibiden began rising more sharply around the middle of the morning session, pushing up the Nikkei. Among bank stocks, Mitsubishi UFJ and others attracted buying.
With the last trading day for interim dividend rights approaching on the 28th, buying targeting those rights also spread, leaving buying across the market in control. At the same time, reports of delays to Oracle's AI data centers prompted selling in SBG-related stocks and became a downward pressure on the market at times.
The TOPIX rebounded for the first time in 3 trading days, closing at 4128.59, up 53.29. The JPX Prime 150 Index also rose 24.34 to 1729.44, indicating a firm overall trend in the Prime Market. Trading value was approximately ¥7.8 trillion, and trading volume was 2.1492 billion shares.
