TOKAI DISTANCE CHALLENGE produced by Nike was held on 24 October 2026, with universities entering athletes primarily in the 5,000m and 10,000m. The overall top performance was Kevin Kiplop's 13:34.62 in the 5,000m, with the Yakult athlete ranked first overall. Multiple universities took part in the long-distance events, and athletes appeared to be building their line-ups with the All-Japan University Ekiden qualifying race in mind.
Toyo University had several positive results in both the 5,000m and 10,000m. At 5,000m, Haruto Mukae (迎 暖人) and Yua Hayashi (林 柚杏) recorded times in the 14-minute range, while Sota Saruta (猿田 創汰) ran 29:07.31 in the 10,000m. With more of its leading athletes competing, the university demonstrated its presence among potential entries for the All-Japan University Ekiden. Tokai University also showed that several athletes were capable of targeting times in the 29-minute range in the 10,000m, indicating improved depth.
At Senshu University, first- and second-year athletes made a strong impression, with numerous personal bests in the early 29-minute range in the 10,000m. Performances such as Yamamoto's (山本) 29:48.02 and Shota Kumon (公文 翔太)'s 29:43.06 suggested that the development of younger athletes could strengthen the team for the Hakone qualifying race. Rikkyo University also showed signs of progress, with Tsubasa Mukatsu (向津 翼) and others recording times in the 29-minute range in the 10,000m.
Among other universities, Kyosuke Natori (名取 響介), Kanato Hisada (久田 叶翔) and others from Takushoku University set a series of personal bests in the 5,000m and 10,000m. Gifu Kyoritsu University also had multiple athletes set personal bests in the 10,000m, indicating that strong competitors from the Tokai region are continuing to emerge.
