On 2 October, Enax opened NECOLABO, a lithium-ion battery safety evaluation centre, at the Kubota site of its Yonezawa Business Office in Yonezawa, Yamagata Prefecture. The company has thereby launched commissioned safety evaluation services.
NECOLABO handles safety testing, charge-discharge testing, failure analysis, benchmarking, safety standards testing, analysis and consulting. In addition to individual cells, it can conduct comprehensive evaluations of complete battery packs and propagation tests to investigate the risk of fire spreading following thermal runaway.
In addition to presenting evaluation results, the centre provides cause analysis and design improvement proposals to support improved lithium-ion battery safety. Enax has combined 30 years of accumulated design, development and manufacturing technology with evaluation expertise to establish what is reportedly Japan's first system for accepting commissioned integrated evaluations from cells through packs.
