AI-related stocks were sold in the Tokyo market on the 26th, and the Nikkei Average closed more than ¥503 below the previous day. The index continued to trade near its lows in the afternoon and ended sharply lower.
The Tokyo market on the 26th lacked a clear direction. The Nikkei Average rose in the morning before weakening again, and although the decline eased in the afternoon, it ultimately closed down approximately ¥503. The Nikkei Average's close was sharply lower than the previous business day, and selling prevailed despite active trading.
Estimated trading volume on the Prime Market was 2.12782 billion shares, while estimated trading value was ¥6,664.38 billion. A total of 818 stocks rose, 686 fell and 49 were unchanged. Among individual stocks, selling prevailed mainly in semiconductor-related issues, including the stock with the highest trading value.
Some stocks, however, attracted notable buying, with Taiyo Yuden and FANUC showing relatively firm price movements. There were also occasions when non-AI stocks attracted buying across the market, and some stocks showed signs of a rebound. Expectations also spread that monetary policy meetings and corporate earnings announcements would gather pace this week.
