Fast Retailing, a stock with a high contribution to the index, edged higher, while semiconductor-related stocks Advantest and Tokyo Electron remained firm.
Among individual stocks, Toyota Motor and Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group were also firm, while SoftBank Group was lackluster at times. As of 9:05 a.m., the Nikkei's percentage gain had exceeded the Nikkei Average itself.
Although the market remains concerned about rising interest rates, buying continued to spread, centered on semiconductor-related stocks, and the Nikkei Average is expected to remain at elevated levels.
