Beijing has once again ranked first in China for the number of unicorn companies. According to a report for the first half of 2026, the number of unicorn companies in Beijing had reached 145 as of the end of June.
According to the 2026 First-Half Global Unicorn Company Observation Report, Beijing retained its position as China's leading city, with the number of unicorn companies in the city reaching 145 as of the end of June. The global total reached 2,034, with the United States accounting for 921 companies and China for 564, representing 45.28% and 27.73% of the total, respectively.
Worldwide, 179 companies became unicorns from January to June, an increase of 250.98% year on year. By region, the United States added 81 companies, up 179.31%, while China added 68, nearly six times as many as in the same period a year earlier, according to the report.
The data are based on a report published by 睿獣分析, a subsidiary of 創業邦. Beijing continues to rank as the city with the most unicorn companies.
There are currently 2,034 unicorn companies worldwide, with the United States accounting for approximately 45.28% of the total and China for approximately 27.73%. The two countries continue to form the core of the global market.
