Kadoma City applied for the Osaka Blue Ocean Vision Promotion Project, which aims to reduce marine plastic waste, and was selected as a participating municipality. It is pursuing initiatives to reduce plastic use and recycle resources in collaboration with companies.
The project was established by the Ministry of the Environment as a framework for municipalities and companies to jointly conduct demonstration activities in fiscal 2022 aimed at achieving self-sustaining initiatives to address the marine plastic waste problem. Kadoma City was selected for the promotion project and has presented a policy of working with residents, businesses and organisations to build a resource-circulating society and achieve zero marine litter.
Kadoma City is working with companies to reduce plastic waste. It has entered into agreements with participating companies Panasonic Holdings, Tiger Corporation, Rinet Japan Recycling and Waterstand, and is conducting demonstration activities using their respective technologies and services.
Specific initiatives include reducing disposable containers by lending Mori no Tumbler reusable cups, collecting and recycling used stainless-steel bottles, and installing water dispensers and promoting their use to encourage the adoption of personal bottles. Records of lending and collection at city events are also being compiled.
The city sold stainless-steel bottles bearing the logo commemorating the 60th anniversary of its municipal incorporation, beginning on 1 July 2023. The vacuum-insulated bottles have a capacity of 500 mL, cost ¥3,800 including tax, and were limited to 200 units. They sold out due to strong demand.
