FURUNO ELECTRIC CO.,LTD. and Xona Space Systems will present research on LEO PNT at ION GNSS+ 2026. The presentation, titled “Study on accelerating position estimation through the dynamic visibility of low-Earth-orbit satellites,” will address the potential for shorter convergence times than GNSS.
ION GNSS+ 2026, an international conference on satellite positioning technology, will be held in Orlando, United States, where FURUNO ELECTRIC CO.,LTD. will deliver a presentation. Takayama Hiroshi (高山洋史), a senior engineer in the company’s System Equipment Division, will speak on research into LEO PNT conducted jointly with Xona Space Systems.
The presentation will examine the potential to shorten the convergence time of position-estimation errors in high-precision positioning using GNSS. With LEO PNT, the apparent satellite configuration from the ground changes substantially because of the high speed of low-Earth-orbit satellites. Numerical simulations indicate that convergence time could be reduced to approximately 1/5 to 1/10 of that for GNSS.
Supporting information includes the domestic reception of actual Xona Pulsar signals in June 2026 and the stable reception of Pulsar signals in a GNSS spoofing test environment in July of the same year. The presentation is intended to share technical findings on LEO PNT more widely.
The company plans to continue collaborating with Xona Space Systems to improve the resilience and security of positioning and time synchronisation systems that complement GNSS.
