The Nikkei 225 rebounded and briefly rose by approximately ¥1,100 to the ¥65,200 range. Against the backdrop of a rise in the U.S. Dow and firm Nasdaq 100 futures, buying of AI-related and semiconductor stocks led the advance in Tokyo.
In morning trading on the 21st, the Nikkei 225 opened higher and extended its gain to approximately ¥1,100 above the previous day’s level. Following the rise in U.S. stocks on the 20th, risk-taking spread, and buying emerged in after-hours trading in major U.S. technology stocks, particularly in the morning.
In the U.S. market, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rebounded and closed ¥529 higher, while SpaceX’s shares rose sharply in after-hours trading following the release of its earnings, which received a favorable response. Buying in semiconductor-related stocks lifted the market as expectations for growth in the AI business increased.
Among domestic stocks, the TOPIX also began trading higher, and buying spread to major AI and semiconductor stocks in tandem with the Nikkei 225. Advantest and Kioxia traded firmly, and financial stocks such as Tokio Marine and Mitsubishi UFJ also attracted buying, while Fast Retailing fell.
Regarding SpaceX-related developments, reports said that CEO Elon Musk had established a special committee to advance discussions on a potential management integration with Tesla, stimulating speculation in related stocks. Future developments in overseas markets could affect the Nikkei 225’s direction.
