Buying led the Tokyo stock market in the morning following gains in US tech stocks during the holiday period. Buying was broad-based, led by AI- and semiconductor-related stocks, and the Nikkei 225 maintained its rise from the opening, widening its gain by the morning close.
The Tokyo market reflected gains in US tech stocks during the holiday period, with the Nikkei 225 sharply higher than the previous business day at the morning close. High-priced AI- and semiconductor-related stocks were broadly bought, while the TOPIX also remained in positive territory.
As of 10 a.m., the Nikkei 225 was temporarily up more than ¥1,000, while SoftBank Group extended its gain to about 5%. At some points, however, gains narrowed as some financial stocks came under profit-taking. Market participants said interest in AI and semiconductor stocks remained strong.
The market opened ¥457.49 higher than the previous business day at ¥65,476.44. Buying continued the trend in US markets during the holiday period, and the Tokyo Stock Price Index (TOPIX) temporarily rose to a high level, although it also showed signs of losing momentum toward the afternoon session.
