The Japan Climate Leaders' Partnership, a business group working toward decarbonization, held an event in Tokyo on the growing frequency of heatwaves driven by global warming. University of Tokyo Professor Watanabe Masahiro (渡部雅浩) pointed to a link between heatwaves and global warming and said this was also affecting the organization of summer tournaments.
The Japan Climate Leaders' Partnership, a business group working toward decarbonization, held an event on 7 July in Tokyo on the issue of global warming.
University of Tokyo Professor Watanabe Masahiro (渡部雅浩), who studies the relationship between global warming and heatwaves, voiced concern that the recent increase in heatwaves should be considered in connection with the global warming behind them.
Watanabe Masahiro (渡部雅浩) and others analyzed that the European heatwave in late June and the high temperatures in Japan in mid-to-late July had become more likely because of global warming. The Japan Football Association explained that, as a general rule, it had decided not to hold tournaments it organizes in July and August to prevent heatstroke.
There were also reports of soaring crop prices caused by high temperatures, as well as increased flooding from sudden torrential rain exceeding the assumptions of sewerage plans, including cases requiring evacuations in low-lying areas and underground shopping centers.
