Hon Hai's head of EV strategy indicated that it may expand passenger-vehicle supplies to Japanese automakers. He said collaboration could gain further momentum through supplies via Mitsubishi Motors and the use of production facilities in Japan.
At a press conference held in Taipei on the 30th, Seki Jun (関 潤), who oversees Hon Hai's EV strategy, said the company intends to expand its supply of passenger vehicles to Japanese automakers. He also noted that Mitsubishi Motors is set to receive EVs from Hon Hai for supply in Australia, indicating that collaboration is becoming more active.
Japanese automakers are increasingly adopting external technologies, while Hon Hai sees a development environment in which competition is intensifying as it works to build confidence in its own vehicle manufacturing. Seki said discussions were also continuing on the SUV models “Model K+” and “Model A+.”
Hon Hai is also considering using production capacity in Japan and presented a plan to utilize Japanese production facilities. It said that, at present, it was exploring expanded collaboration with Japanese automakers in the form of asking them to “lend” their facilities.
