Large-scale forest fires have occurred one after another in Indonesia, with dry conditions and the El Niño phenomenon cited as contributing factors. Against the backdrop of the forest fires, Marubeni is strengthening monitoring of the forests it operates.
While Marubeni is taking steps to strengthen monitoring, Sumitomo Forestry has introduced a monitoring system that includes the surrounding soil. This will enable a broader assessment of the local forest environment.
IHI has also begun external sales in cooperation with Sumitomo Forestry, with a view to expanding its business and disaster-prevention measures going forward.
