At the Defense Drone Technology Exhibition held by the Ministry of National Defense on the 16th, multiple drones crashed or otherwise failed during demonstrations of technology developed by domestic companies. These incidents included the crash immediately after takeoff of a KAI medium-sized jet-engine unmanned aircraft, as well as the failure of a prior suicide drone during a maritime test.
The Ministry of National Defense of South Korea showcased technology demonstrations involving drones and unmanned aircraft developed by private companies at the Defense Drone Technology Exhibition held at a training ground in Pocheon, Gyeonggi Province. Some prototypes failed to operate as expected at various points, with frequency interference cited as a possible factor.
The equipment displayed that day included artificial-intelligence swarm drones, high-speed jet-powered unmanned aircraft and counter-drone systems, but some aircraft failed during the demonstrations. In particular, a medium-sized jet-engine unmanned aircraft developed by KAI crashed immediately after takeoff.
Against this backdrop, the Ministry of National Defense emphasized the importance of developing technology to resolve frequency interference. In addition, ahead of the exhibition, a Korean-style suicide drone under development led by the Agency for Defense Development (ADD) had also crashed into the sea twice during combat tests the previous month.
