JR Kyushu formally announced that it plans to enter the banking, securities and insurance businesses during fiscal 2027. It will partner with SBI Holdings to provide BaaS-based functions integrated with transit IC cards and points.
JR Kyushu formally announced on the 25th that it plans to enter the financial services business during fiscal 2027. Specifically, it is considering expanding into areas including banking, securities and insurance, with a system to award points based on usage, such as opening accounts and making deposits.
The company said the initiative will link the services to transit IC cards and JR Kyushu's points service, with the aim of retaining customers. The new services are expected to improve customer convenience and strengthen loyalty.
JR Kyushu will form a business alliance with major financial group SBI Holdings and use a system known as BaaS (Banking as a Service), which incorporates financial functions provided by banks into other services. JR Kyushu plans to use an app developed by SBIHD for the new services.
At a press conference on the 25th, President Komiya Yoji (古宮洋二) explained the purpose of the alliance and the use of BaaS. Further announcements will provide details on the specific launch timing and services covered.
