Anthropic announced on 27 October 2026 US time that it had acquired the drug-discovery company Mithril Medicine. The acquired company reportedly used its AI, Claude, to coordinate collaboration with 11 external research institutes while advancing development of a drug candidate.
Mithril was developing a drug candidate for a rare form of muscular dystrophy and used Claude to coordinate contracts, experimental plans, data management and communications with external research institutes. The results of mouse studies were considered promising in less than 18 months, while the experimental work itself was reportedly conducted by external organizations.
Some reports put the completion date of the acquisition in July 2026. Anthropic has reportedly positioned Mithril's case as an example demonstrating the effectiveness of coordination work using Claude.
