The head of Salesforce Japan has proposed four Rs as the conditions for generating ROI from AI investment. The company explained that cycling the four Rs through an organization can drive organizational transformation beyond simply pursuing technology.
At Salesforce's annual event held in San Francisco, more than 900 customers, including C-suite executives, from Japan, South Korea and Taiwan attended. Discussions focused on management and organizational transformation rather than explanations of AI products.
The biggest challenge to emerge was how to make the ROI of AI investment tangible.
Salesforce advocates cycling the four Rs—Redesign, Reskilling, Redeployment and Rebalance—throughout an organization. Starting with Redesign, which involves identifying the high-value work to be performed by people and the work to be entrusted to AI and redesigning the organization and sales model, companies then move on to reskilling and redeploying employees to the front lines, before creating a cycle that leads to Rebalance, the ongoing readjustment of the organization based on an assessment of the results.
The idea presented was that putting the four Rs into practice enables companies to abandon a passive approach of chasing external technology and transform their own operations and organizational structures. The realization of effective ROI was cited as a bottleneck to AI adoption by Japanese companies.
