In its Integrated Report 2026, Sumitomo Forestry once again organized the significance of the “Wood Cycle.” The company outlined a policy of communicating its value-creation story, which links forest management with timber and building materials, wooden construction and woody biomass power generation, through dialogue with investors.
In Integrated Report 2026, Sumitomo Forestry set out an editorial approach that revisits its proprietary value chain, the “Wood Cycle,” which has long been central to the company. The Wood Cycle starts with forest management and views the manufacturing and distribution of timber and building materials, wooden construction and woody biomass power generation as a single cycle. The concept was introduced when the company formulated its long-term vision, “Mission TREEING 2030,” looking ahead to 2030.
The company reorganized its explanations based on the recognition that deeper understanding through dialogue was needed to communicate why growing forests and using wood create value. Investors asked questions such as how the individual businesses are connected and where the company's competitive advantage lies, creating a need to strengthen the explanation of the underlying premise.
The Integrated Report includes a newly added page titled “From the Value of Forests to Value for Society.” It presents the functions of forests, global deforestation, the aging of Japan's forests and carbon fixation, thereby explaining the social significance of using wood.
Details of the production structure, including the IR department's organization and its intended readership, were also disclosed as data. This indicates an aim to reconsider how the company communicates corporate value on the premise of dialogue with investors.
