COVER Corporation held its first company-wide internal hackathon in September. Approximately 30 people from more than 10 departments participated, 70% of them non-engineers, spending 8 hours developing and presenting prototypes in an unusual format.
The first company-wide internal hackathon was held on a Saturday in September, with approximately 30 people from more than 10 departments participating. Participants exchanged ideas and met in advance, while the development period on the day lasted approximately 8 hours. Non-engineers accounted for approximately 70% of participants, and 10 teams were formed, with each team aiming to complete a prototype.
The main theme was “sense of presence,” with the use of the coding-support AI Claude Code as the secondary theme. An environment was created in which non-engineers could also use AI. All 10 teams ultimately progressed to presentations, with each team giving a 5-minute presentation, for a total of 10 presentations. Some teams had no engineers, but completed their work with support from AI and technical staff.
There were 4 award categories: the YAGOO Award went to Contrib_Visualizer, the ikko Award to るすばん, first place in the participant vote to OshiYell, and the Sense of Presence Award to hololive friends to GoMokunarabe. An overview of each work was presented with comments from the winning teams, and their efforts to embody a sense of presence were recognized. The average satisfaction score in the post-event survey was 4.96 out of 5.
The event also featured an anecdote about the head of HR submitting a Pull Request within 8 hours and completing conflict resolution. As its first company-wide hackathon, the event produced results in cross-functional collaboration and lowering the barriers to using AI, and further events are expected.
