The Nikkei Average briefly fell below ¥63,000 on 14 September, putting the outlook for an autumn rebound rally in focus. Hideyuki Suzuki (鈴木英之), head of the Investment Information Department at SBI Securities, expects the Nikkei Average to trade in a ¥60,000–¥70,000 range in view of the interim results and identified banks, AI, semiconductors and high-dividend stocks as key themes.
The Nikkei Stock Average fell for a second straight session on 14 September, briefly slipping below the ¥63,000 level. The decline is believed to have been driven by rising crude oil prices and long-term interest rates, cautious trading ahead of monetary policy meetings in Japan and the US, and pressure from AI and semiconductor-related stocks.
Hideyuki Suzuki (鈴木英之), head of the Investment Information Department at SBI Securities, said he expects the Nikkei Average to trade in a ¥60,000–¥70,000 range after the interim earnings announcements, with the first half remaining soft and levels rising in the second half. He also cited the effect of higher interest rates on bank stocks and the possibility that a reassessment of earnings at AI and semiconductor stocks could provide a catalyst.
Going forward, attention will focus on the performance of individual stocks following the interim results, interest-rate trends and movements in the yen. While AI and semiconductor-related stocks are expected to be reassessed after their earnings announcements, bank stocks are viewed as particularly sensitive to interest-rate trends.
