Sakana AI, SCSK and Sumitomo Corporation have announced a comprehensive business alliance aimed at transforming industries through the use of AI. Sakana AI will handle research and development and business implementation, SCSK will oversee data preparation and governance, and Sumitomo Corporation will promote industrial deployment by leveraging approximately 900 consolidated operating companies and a customer base of 100,000 companies. The initial areas are expected to include 4 fields, such as finance, manufacturing and social infrastructure.
The defining feature of this alliance is that a company that “builds” AI, a company that “integrates it into operations” and a company with operational businesses are joining forces in a single framework. Sakana AI will handle AI research and development and business implementation, SCSK will oversee data preparation, integration and governance, and Sumitomo Corporation will lead industrial deployment by leveraging approximately 900 consolidated operating companies and a customer base of 100,000 companies.
The 4 initial areas cited are said to include the consideration and development of services that cover the process from vulnerability assessments through remediation, particularly in finance, manufacturing and social infrastructure. The announcement suggests that these services could be rolled out progressively to financial institutions and critical infrastructure operators.
Before this announcement, SCSK was delisted in March 2026, Sumitomo Corporation established its Digital & AI Group in April of the same year, and Sakana AI began general availability of Fugu in June. At a DAIS briefing, the companies outlined a strategy centered on the application layer, and this collaboration is positioned as part of that strategy.
One of the aims of the alliance is to center the offering on Sakana AI's models while using orchestration to combine multiple AI models and limit dependence on any specific foundation model. This presents the possibility of deploying the approach to customers of other companies as a reusable “model.”
