BROTHER INDUSTRIES,LTD. announced that it has commercialised “chatter vibration diagnostic technology” developed through joint research with Nagoya University. The function is installed in selected SPEEDIO series models and supports stable cutting by recommending machining conditions.
Chatter vibration amplifies vibration in the tool or material, causing problems such as patterns and unevenness on component surfaces and loads on tools and machinery. Traditionally, measures such as reducing the depth of cut were commonly used, but their impact on productivity was an issue.
The technology diagnoses the characteristics of chatter vibration during machining and proposes machining conditions less likely to cause vibration. It is installed as Brother's “chatter diagnostic support” function, helping maintain quality while improving operating efficiency.
The announcement is based on a press release dated 5 November 2026. It also introduces the name of the technology, the background to the joint research and the models in which it is installed.
