TOPPAN Holdings temporarily hit the daily price limit, while Tokio Marine Holdings fell and Isetan Mitsukoshi Holdings rose. The Nikkei Average extended its winning streak for a third day.
The Nikkei Average rose for a third straight day, supported by easing expectations for an early rate hike after the increase in US CPI for July came in line with market expectations. Buying continued in semiconductor-related stocks, and the Nikkei Average rose to a high level in the morning session. In the afternoon, however, reports emerged that the Bank of Japan might raise interest rates sooner than expected, bringing the focus on bank stocks to an end.
Among individual stocks, TOPPAN Holdings temporarily hit the daily price limit on its earnings results released after the market closed. Operating profit rose 47.9% year on year to ¥20 billion, helped by strong performance in packaging and the contribution from its US business acquisition.
Tokio Marine Holdings fell for a third straight day. In its results for the first quarter of the fiscal year ending March 2027, net profit rose 3.3% year on year to ¥264.3 billion. Some viewed the start to the year as solid, excluding the impact of major accidents.
Isetan Mitsukoshi Holdings announced its results during afternoon trading, reporting a 20.6% year-on-year increase in operating profit to ¥18.8 billion. The company raised its full-year forecast and announced a 1-for-2 stock split, based on the shareholder register as of the end of September, but profit-taking was also seen after the announcement.
