The number of companies delisting from the Tokyo Stock Exchange has reached a record high for the third consecutive year, with 128 delistings recorded during the year. This surpasses the record of 125 set in full-year 2025.
The factors behind the delistings reportedly include cases in which companies go private in partnership with funds, as well as cases in which they are unable to meet continued-listing criteria as a result of market reforms.
Of the securities under supervision, 29 have been designated as having the potential for delisting, while reforms to listing markets and reviews of companies' growth strategies are moving forward.
Going forward, Japanese companies will be required to pursue new forms of growth that do not presuppose a public listing.
