Nidec President Kishida Mitsuya (岸田光哉) resigned, and Kaida Michio (戒田理夫) took office as his successor. Developments surrounding the company's move away from the management structure maintained under former Chairperson Nagamori Shigenobu (永守重信), along with progress on internal reforms and the company's financial condition, are coming into focus.
President Kishida Mitsuya (岸田光哉) resigned. He had taken office as president as the successor to founder Nagamori Shigenobu (永守重信), but Kaida Michio (戒田理夫) was appointed as the new president in this personnel change. Kaida (戒田) was originally a career employee of Nidec and had moved to headquarters after being selected by Nagamori (永守). The appointment was the final decision reached as outside directors and others had been searching for a successor since around summer, and amounted to taking on a highly difficult task.
Internally, the board of directors, led by outside directors, had been pursuing a search for a successor to Kishida (岸田), and ultimately decided on Kaida (戒田), who had been a senior executive officer. The decision appears to have been made to establish a structure for moving away from Nagamori (永守) as part of organisational reforms intended to create distance from Nagamori (永守).
Nidec's FY2025 net loss came to a massive ¥564.6 billion, and the audit firm issued a disclaimer of opinion. As the situation surrounding the maintenance of the listing deteriorates, the key issues will be how to disentangle Nagamori (永守)'s influence and settle responsibility for management. Kaida (戒田) will be called on to navigate the company going forward while holding the position of one of the executives close to Nagamori (永守) within the group.
Nagamori (永守) has avoided opportunities to explain his management responsibility in public and has so far refrained from responding to media inquiries, including press conferences, despite recent images of him. He appeared at the Nagamori Prize award ceremony in September, but maintained a cautious posture, including by avoiding the usual entrance route. The extent to which Kaida (戒田)'s new management team will move to sever Nagamori (永守)'s influence will be a focus of market attention.
