Mitsubishi Electric announced plans to acquire PCI Energy Solutions, a leading US power management software company, and make it a wholly owned subsidiary. The acquisition is valued at $1.4 billion, approximately ¥220 billion, making it the company's largest acquisition to date.
PCI Energy Solutions specializes in software that forecasts power demand and develops generation plans. Its platform is reportedly used for approximately 60% of power generation in the United States. Against a backdrop of rising demand driven by the adoption of renewable energy and the expansion of AI data centers, Mitsubishi Electric has made developing systems that use energy efficiently and without waste a central pillar of its new medium-term management strategy. Through the acquisition, it aims to strengthen its position in this field.
Mitsubishi Electric is reportedly expected to complete the acquisition within this year.
