eREX completed a biomass cofiring test using wood pellets at the Nonsong Power Plant in Vietnam, achieving a cofiring rate of 30%. The cofiring rate for wood chips was limited to 5%. The test was the third in the series, beginning in September 2026 and ending in October.
eREX completed a biomass cofiring test at the 30 MW Nonsong Power Plant owned by Vietnam's Vinacomin Power. This was the company's third biomass cofiring test, involving the separate cofiring of wood pellets and wood chips.
Wood pellets were fed into the plant during the test, achieving a cofiring rate of 30%, above the 20% target. The cofiring rate for wood chips, however, was limited to 5%. One contributing factor was the confirmed accumulation of wood chips in the fuel supply equipment, and operations were conducted with priority given to stable operation.
The test began with the introduction of wood fuel on 15 September 2026 and was completed on 7 October of the same year. Based on the results, the test aimed to determine the feasible cofiring rate without modifying the existing equipment and identify areas requiring modification in the future.
The project forms part of an initiative using subsidies from the “Subsidy Program for Decarbonization and Energy Transition Technologies in Resource-Rich Countries.” Its progress toward future commercialization is also attracting attention.
