The Kansai Electric Power Company announced that it had confirmed a temperature rise beyond the normal range in part of the equipment at Takahama Nuclear Power Station Unit 1. The prescribed temperature requiring an emergency shutdown has not been exceeded.
At one location on a pressurizer safety valve, the temperature has remained at 66–67°C, compared with the normal temperature of about 50°C. The operating manual requires the reactor to be shut down if the temperature exceeds 77°C, and the company has strengthened its monitoring of related parameters.
Among the nuclear power stations operated by Kansai Electric Power, Ohi Nuclear Power Station Unit 3 and Mihama Nuclear Power Station Unit 3 are also currently shut down because of equipment problems. Equipment and parts are scheduled to be replaced at both stations to prevent similar issues.
