Three years after Broadcom's acquisition of VMware, VMware has announced VMware HyperArmor, a new hypervisor virtual patching feature, strengthening defense in depth in conjunction with VCF. Based on the explanation at VMware Explore in Tokyo, enhanced host-layer security is at the forefront.
VMware announced VMware HyperArmor on 13 October 2026. It provides virtual patching at the host layer and is designed to protect ESX from the exploitation of vulnerabilities. It also complements the network-layer virtual patching functionality provided through VCF.
HyperArmor works with VMware vDefend and was described as offering the benefit of reducing patching downtime by preventing the need to restart hosts or update software to block the exploitation of vulnerabilities.
A mechanism was also introduced that integrates multi-factor authentication (MFA) at the hypervisor level with the SSH path and reduces the risk of unauthorized access by requiring additional authentication.
VMware indicated a policy of advancing its private AI cloud offerings. It explained that AI Factory and Tanzu Platform connect data and applications with AI, while TrueSource by Broadcom ensures the reliability of open source.
