NTTドコモビジネス has announced a Japan-based AI infrastructure and new features for large-scale IoT. It unveiled the launch of a sovereign AI environment combining MEC and GPUaaS, along with Pro, a new offering designed to support global expansion.
NTTドコモビジネス announced on 24 September an expansion of the features of “docomo business SIGN” to support large-scale IoT operations and AI use in the era of physical AI. The sovereign AI environment, the first of its kind from a domestic operator, combines MEC servers with the GPU cloud service “GPUaaS” to address three challenges: data sovereignty, security and scalability.
Sovereign AI is an environment designed to manage data under Japanese law and keep it within Japan. For controlling robots and autonomous vehicles, among other applications, it aims to distribute processing by offloading functions to the network rather than handling them on the robot side, easing cost and size constraints. The facilities will be held by the NTT Group as shared resources and can be used as needed, starting from a single GPU.
The new Pro offering is primarily aimed at companies deploying industrial equipment globally, including automakers, construction machinery manufacturers and surveillance camera operators, and is scheduled to launch in March 2027. It will include API integration to automate lifecycle management from line activation through suspension, support for global operations, the introduction of SGP.32-compliant eSIMs and SIM theft detection.
NTTドコモビジネス has set a cumulative revenue target of approximately ¥60 billion by 2030 for docomo business SIGN as a whole, and intends to use the new feature set, including Pro, to respond flexibly from small-scale initial deployments through large-scale rollouts.
