On the afternoon of the 21st, USD/JPY was little changed around ¥157 in Tokyo trading. With few market catalysts, trading was subdued and the pair was virtually flat in the afternoon.
NY crude oil futures (WTI) recovered to the $94 range per barrel, making the dollar somewhat more likely to attract buying. Higher oil prices fueled a broader risk-aversion mood, putting the Australian dollar under selling pressure.
So far, USD/JPY has traded between ¥156.57 and ¥157.11, EUR/JPY between ¥179.85 and ¥180.37, and EUR/USD between $1.1477 and $1.1485.
