The pre-order opening and release dates for the first foldable iPhone, reportedly to be called the iPhone Fold (iPhone Ultra), are expected to fall around September 2026. Multiple reports have covered the latest leaks on its price, design and specifications, along with the possibility of a Japan release and comparisons with competing foldable models.
Apple is reportedly considering launching a foldable iPhone, and some analysts believe it is likely to launch alongside the iPhone 18 Pro series in September 2026. The foldable model is expected to be called either the iPhone Fold or the iPhone Ultra.
The device is widely expected to cost more than any previous iPhone, with estimated prices of approximately ¥318,610 for the 256GB model, while the 2TB model is also expected to be expensive. Several leakers have suggested a price of around $2,000 or more.
In terms of design, the display is expected to measure approximately 7.8 inches when open and 5.5 inches when closed. The crease is reportedly less than 0.15 mm deep, with new technologies such as in-cell panels and liquid-metal hinges expected to minimize its visibility.
The specifications are expected to include an A20 Pro chip built on a 2nm process and 12GB of RAM. The modem may be upgraded to the C2 modem. The rear camera is reportedly not expected to include a telephoto lens, while both the inner camera and the external front camera are said to offer 24MP resolution. Touch ID is also rumored to return.
There has been no official announcement regarding a Japan release at this time, but some observers believe that obtaining the device in Japan could be difficult due to supply constraints.
