ULSコンサルティング supported Maeda Construction Industry's development of a face-pressure control support system and demonstrated that forecasts of face-pressure fluctuations 10 seconds ahead, based on field data, matched the judgements of experienced engineers by about 90%.
ULSコンサルティング supported Maeda Construction Industry's development of a face-pressure control support system for tunnel shield construction. The system uses AI to stabilise face pressure during excavation, with the aim of enabling consistent tunnelling without relying on the experience of skilled engineers.
Against a backdrop of labour shortages and work-style reforms in the construction industry, Maeda Construction is promoting the use of AI to improve operational efficiency and pass on skilled expertise. In shield tunnelling, maintaining appropriate face pressure to prevent ground subsidence and uplift is a challenge, and this has traditionally depended on engineers' experience and knowledge.
ULSコンサルティング provided end-to-end support, from AI model design and validation through to application development for use on construction sites. The development process also included building prototypes suited to actual field operations.
During the demonstration phase, the system forecast face-pressure fluctuations approximately 10 seconds ahead at an actual construction site, achieving about 90% agreement with the judgements of experienced engineers. Another feature is the ease of rolling it out beyond specific sites by using the MAIOSS-Ⅱ platform.
