Regarding forced mobilization during the Second Sino-Japanese War, China's Foreign Ministry said that the filing with a Chinese court of a lawsuit seeking damages from Japanese companies showed that Japan should address the issues left by history appropriately and with a responsible attitude.
Guo Jiakun (郭嘉昆), deputy director of the Chinese Foreign Ministry's Department of Press, Communication and Public Diplomacy, called on Japan to respond after the families of Chinese victims of forced mobilization during the Second Sino-Japanese War filed a complaint with a Chinese court seeking damages from Japanese companies.
Guo condemned forced labor as "one of the serious crimes committed by Japanese militarism during its period of external aggression and colonial rule" and called on Japan to face up to history, reflect on its culpability and listen to the calls for justice from the people of Asian countries that suffered harm.
The remarks were made to urge Japan to address the historical issues appropriately and were reported as a call for Japan to respond in light of the filing.
