Hitachi and KSK completed a PoC to validate the digital transformation of pharmaceutical delivery, demonstrating a function that automatically reconfigures delivery routes even when staff shortages occur. Deployment at KSK's branches is scheduled to begin in November 2026.
Hitachi, Ltd. and KSK announced that they completed a proof of concept (PoC) at the end of September 2026 to digitalize pharmaceutical delivery using Hitachi Digital Solution for Logistics. Previously, sales staff handled deliveries when delivery personnel were unavailable, but the companies developed an operating model that reallocates deliveries to another available route based on the locations of delivery destinations, delivery times and whether vehicles can enter the premises. They stated that this reduced the workload for substitute deliveries necessitated by staff shortages by 60%.
The initiative introduced the Point Dynamic function supporting dynamic delivery optimization and adopted a system that maintains fixed routes under normal conditions and reconfigures them when a staff shortage is detected. The aim is to achieve both high-quality delivery management for pharmaceuticals and the digitalization of operations.
Going forward, operations are scheduled to begin sequentially at KSK branches from November 2026, with the company planning to establish dynamic route reconfiguration based on on-site operating conditions and the use of NFC cards for electronic receipt. In the longer term, the companies aim to expand information sharing from warehouses to delivery destinations and improve supply chain autonomy.
