NYK Line and its group technology research and development company MTI signed a memorandum of understanding with the University of Michigan’s Department of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering to formalize and expand research and educational cooperation in the maritime and shipbuilding sectors.
The memorandum establishes a framework for expanding joint research over the next 5 years, promoting researcher exchanges and strengthening collaboration in the shipbuilding sector between Japan and the United States.
Under the new cooperation framework, the parties will identify research, development, testing and demonstration challenges and opportunities in advanced shipbuilding technologies, and work to develop a Japan-U.S. joint strategic framework that presents solutions benefiting both countries.
The strategic framework and technology roadmap will be made publicly available as joint outputs, with the aim of supporting investment and research and development decision-making in the maritime industries of Japan and the United States.
