MEIKO ELECTRONICS announced that it will acquire Unimicron Japan, the Japanese subsidiary of Unimicron Technology Corporation. The stock transfer agreement is expected to be signed in December, as the company seeks to strengthen domestic production in anticipation of growing demand for AI servers and other applications.
MEIKO ELECTRONICS announced plans to acquire all shares of Unimicron Japan, a subsidiary of Taiwan-based major circuit board manufacturer Unimicron Technology Corporation, making it a wholly owned subsidiary. The parties signed a memorandum of basic agreement today, and the stock transfer agreement is scheduled to be signed in December. Unimicron Japan, the target company, is based in Eniwa, Hokkaido.
The acquisition is driven by growing demand for AI servers and other applications. MEIKO ELECTRONICS said it plans to respond to customer demand by strengthening production capacity for high-value-added products such as build-up circuit boards.
Given that production is currently concentrated at its facilities in Vietnam, the company intends to expand domestic production to diversify risk, and the acquisition is expected to form part of that effort.
Information released alongside the announcement stated that Unimicron Japan’s sales for the fiscal year ending March 2026 were ¥7.9 billion and that it recorded an operating loss of ¥594 million.
