As child poverty becomes a growing social issue, free telephone consultations on child support are being held nationwide. According to the Osaka Judicial Scriveners Association and others, approximately one in 8.7 children is considered to be living in poverty, while only approximately 28% of households in single-mother families receive child support payments.
The revised Civil Code, which took effect in April, strengthened measures to address nonpayment of child support, including statutory child support that can be claimed provisionally even when no arrangements were made at the time of divorce, and statutory liens that make it easier to seize the other party’s assets.
The telephone consultation events are being held nationwide, with judicial scriveners providing advice free of charge. The contact number is 0120-567-301, and the event will be held on 5 September (Saturday), from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Judicial scrivener Morimoto Mayu (森本真悠) of the Osaka Young Judicial Scriveners Association urged people to take part, saying, “You don’t have to worry alone; there are people who will listen.”
