Mid-sized and small industrial waste treatment companies are seeking growth by expanding opportunities to handle municipalities’ municipal solid waste and proposing long-term use of incineration facilities under public-private partnerships (PPP). DAI-EI KANKYO obtained approval to install an incineration facility in Aioi City and is targeting operations in 2029.
Mid-sized and small companies that process industrial waste are expanding business opportunities by taking on the treatment of municipal solid waste, including household waste, and proposing arrangements that allow facilities to be used for extended periods. The aim is to reduce the burden on municipalities facing labor shortages and aging facilities, while supporting corporate growth.
In March, DAI-EI KANKYO obtained approval from Aioi City, Hyogo Prefecture, to install an incineration facility. As part of a public-private partnership (PPP) with the city, the company plans to build a new facility using private-sector funding to primarily process household waste, with operations targeted to begin in 2029.
An increasing number of municipalities are entrusting household waste treatment to private companies to promote the long-term use of facilities and address labor shortages. The use of private-sector funding and PPP-based operations is attracting attention as an option for addressing challenges involving the renewal of incineration facilities and measures to deal with aging infrastructure.
