BOJ Deputy Governor Ryozo Himino (氷見野良三) indicated that the Bank would consider a rate hike, including at its next meeting. While the market sees a high probability of a hike at the September meeting, he also emphasized the need to remain alert to upside risks to inflation.
At a press conference on the 27th, BOJ Deputy Governor Ryozo Himino (氷見野良三) said that the Bank would continue to carefully consider a rate hike at every monetary policy meeting, including the next one.
The market is said to have priced in a rate hike at the next meeting on 17–18 September with a probability of more than 80%. Although there was no language to dispel those expectations, he stopped short of giving a definitive signal.
Himino (氷見野良三) emphasized the need to be more alert than ever to upside risks to inflation. He made the remarks at a press conference following a meeting on financial and economic affairs held in Saitama City.
In his speech, he was reported to have indicated that the Bank would continue to closely monitor developments in the conduct of monetary policy.
